People Decisions - Why it is Important to Management Success

Effective decision making is important to all managers.  Understanding the relationship between business success and relationship management is important to the success of an organization.  Peter F. Drucker identified six skill areas effective managers must possess. Of the six skill areas, people decisions are special as people decisions have the greatest impact on the performance of the organization.  Relationship management is one of the most important skill sets a manager can have and is important in making effective people decisions.

Below are the five primary steps involved in making effective people decisions.

  • Carefully consider the assignment/goal
  • Consider three to five qualified people
  • Consider the strengths of the candidates
  • Discuss each candidate with their supervisor
  • Ensure the candidate understands the job and what it requires
Effective decision making is primary but effective people management is more important because if a manager does not understand the motivations of employees any measure of success will be hard won and short lived.

Everything is about people. We can be good at many things, but if we aren't also good with people we will only experience a small amount of success in our business lives and happiness in our personal lives. Thanks for sharing!
